The story

A place worth
staying for.

As the sun drops over Port Phillip Bay, the Mornington Peninsula turns into one of Victoria’s best wide-angle views.

From high on the Mornington Peninsula, Port Phillip Bay opens into a huge sweep of coastline, water and sky.

Arthurs Seat is the kind of viewpoint that changes with the light. In the late afternoon, the landscape is all greens and blues. As the sun falls, the bay catches the last warmth and the suburbs below begin to glow.

Stay for the last light

The reward is not simply the view. It is watching the view change. Clouds pick up colour, the coastline becomes a darker silhouette and the horizon stretches further as the day disappears.

On a clear evening, give yourself enough time to arrive before sunset rather than timing it to the minute. The softer light before and after the sun touches the horizon can be just as photogenic.

Sometimes the best part of a destination is simply finding a higher place to look from.

Arthurs Seat works beautifully as part of a slower Mornington Peninsula drive, especially when the intention is less about collecting stops and more about staying for the atmosphere.
